The Hill Organ

For many years the Cathedral was served by the small two manual and pedal organ by William Hill and Son of London and has been pressed back into service while the big organ is unusable. It is a lovely small example of its genre and many churches would feel fortunate to have one, but it lacks the ability to lead singing in the Cathedral due to its size and location. It makes a good small choir organ however!

The organ was built in 1898 with seven speaking stops, but returned to the UK in 1907 to have two further stops added. It is now nine speaking stops, with tracker (mechanical) action, which explains its longevity, and while showing signs of its age, it still functioning.

Some restoration is now needed.
